I like to create: River of Books An up-cycled river of re-purposed books
Take one failed print run of ‘coffee-table’ books about the Manawatū region, a library with an empty wall that needed filling and four artists, and what do you get? The Book River! A cascade of colour, a river of re-purposed books, a torrent of bent and folded words and images that wells up and flows downhill to discharge into the ground floor of the Palmerston North Library’s Sound & Vision space. It's a ‘Manawatū River’ of the imagination… Bettina, along with photographer David Lupton and artists Aaron Roberts and Emmanuel Yiannoutsos, designed and installed this unique book-based sculpture. Part of the project involved developing and running community book-folding workshops (using the re-purposed faulty print-run books) with library-goers and schools to help create the sculpture. |
