Pūkeko whakataukī

Māori whakataukī (sayings) often compare people's behaviour with that of birds...

Pūkeko were known to the Māori for their bold scheming and determination - they raided their gardens for kūmara (sweet potato) and taro. A stubborn, annoying person invoked images of the bird, and was said to have pūkeko ears (taringa pākura).
